Islam represents a continuation of the Abrahamic faiths – Judaism and Christianity.
But while Islam today features often in the news, what exactly are the basics of the great faith?
Here’s what classical Islam teaches.
These are the five obligations that are the basis for the religious practice in Islam.
Testimony
“There is no god but God and Muhammad is His Messenger”.
Prayer
“Performing ritual prayers five times each day.
Zakat
Paying an annual portion of savings to the needy and the poor.
Fasting
Fasting daily during the holy month of Ramadan.
Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage to Mecca is a duty every able Muslim should fulfil once.
In addition to the five pillars,
the faith of Islam requires belief
in six key tenets.
"It (Islam) is to believe in God;
His Angels; His Books; His Messengers; The Last Day;
and in destiny - its good & bad."
PROPHET MUHAMMED
(PEACE BE UPON HIM)
His Life
An orphan, a shepherd, a statesman. Get to know Muhammed, may God honour him and grant him peace.
His Sayings
Along with the Holy Qur'an, the traditions and sayings of the Prophet (Pbuh) form the basis of Islam.
His Last Sermon
Standing on top of mount Arafat near Mecca, the Prophet (Pbuh) gave a farewell sermon as his final message to humanity.
The Final Guidance
The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from God, sent to Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) through Gabriel. It is widely regarded as the finest piece of literature in the Arabic language.
Mosque visits
A visit to the Turku Mosque is the perfect way to learn more about the Islamic faith. Our volunteers work hard to organise mosque visits for groups and individuals.
